I have a janitorial business. I have one big client but I want to expand my business. I just bought a carpet cleaning van mount system that was pretty expensive. I have 17 years experience and all the right tools, but no exposure. I know in todays world, flyers don’t work any more and the internet must be utilized. What is a good way to start to advertise on the web and give basic prices and info on my company. Ideas and help is appreciated.

  1. Free Screensavers Says:

You have the experience and the tools. Having a website doesn’t hurt, but it isn’t necessary. Before we talk about a website, I’d recommend the following strategy:

    1. Ask your current client if they know anyone else who needs janitorial services. Customer referrals are a powerful marketing tool that you should use.

    2. Call local businesses and tell them that you’re a local janitorial service. As a promotion, you will clean their business for 50% off. Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part. People tend not to switch janitor services to the initial cost of half off for the first job is nothing compared to the new business you’ll have for years to come.

    3. What makes you different from the other janitorial services? Do you have a faster response time? Will you do a better job? How about customer satisfaction? List what makes you different and highlight these things when you talk to people. Flyers and all of that are overrated. Talk to people because people like working with people. There are too many flyers and websites out there. If you take the time to call people, you’ll be rewarded with a sale.

    4. Offer information first. For example, you have one client. Go to neighboring businesses and tell them that you work for a neighboring business, tell them which one, and what you charge. Give them the information and tell them that if they’re interested in hiring a janitorial service to give you a call and you’ll respond personally. If it is okay with them, check back with them in three to four days.

Okay, to answer your question, if you’re determined to start a website. You only need one page. It needs to clearly tell people that you’re a janitorial service, you have 17 years experience, have a professional van outfitted with a carpet cleaning system, and where you operate. Have a simple and clear pricing system for people to see and a contact email and phone number that they can call. Also, have a referral system for customers who refer new customers to you. Give them a free day of cleaning or something like that. For advertising, if you must, google adwords work very well.

Hope that helps and best of luck!
